What is the major hurdle keeping the region from an economic turnaround?
"To sum it up, it's the local, state and federal regulations, taxes and insurance issues that are having a debilitating effect on business.

"If business fuels our economy, especially manufacturing, then the aggregate effect is furthering the economic weakness of this region. As margins continue to decline, companies will streamline expenses and take less risk, and that equates to fewer jobs."

What company would you consider a strong leader?
"Itron, in my view, is clearly the leader in this area. It's got great management, strong products and is aggressively moving forward in a changing industry."
